In line with Middlesex College’s commitment to ethical and professional conduct, we require employers utilizing Career Services to adhere to employment laws and principles of professional practice, as outlined by the federal government and The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice, respectively.
As of January 5, 2018, the Department of Labor has updated their guidelines for determining whether an internship can be unpaid. The new guideline focuses on the Primary Beneficiary Test to ensure that the growth of the intern receives primary benefit of the internship experience. It is also critical that interns not displace the hiring of paid employees to perform functions of the business.
