Individuals with expert knowledge in a subject matter who hold at least a master’s degree are invited to apply for adjunct faculty positions across the College.
Middlesex College is holding an Adjunct Faculty Job Fair on May 23 from 4-7 p.m. in the Parkview Room at West Hall to meet with candidates interested in filling the role of adjuncts at the College.
Middlesex College employs nearly 500 adjunct professors per term, giving students a chance to learn from professionals in various fields.
“They bring us real-world experience from their disciplines whether it’s computer science, engineering, history, whatever,” explained Jason Jordan, Associate Director of Human Resources at Middlesex College.
“We want them to come here and let them transfer their knowledge to our students to take with when they graduate and get a job, or go on to other schools.”
The requirements are a master’s degree in a subject or related discipline, experience teaching adult learners and subject matter expertise.
“I can answer based on being a former student that we are looking for professors who are approachable and can easily explain things,” said HR Coordinator Anny Jaquez. “We are looking for people who can be available for their students.”
Compensation is based on the amount of credit hours taught per course. Hours are flexible, allowing the adjuncts to find time and courses that work for them.
Middlesex College has some adjunct professors who have been working on campus for over 40 years. They are a significant part of the educational mission at Middlesex College which seeks to give students a chance to apply classroom learning to solve real-world problems.
“Many of our adjuncts go on to other things at the College,” said Jaquez. “They can tutor students privately, or go work on grant projects, some work in continuing education projects, other have gotten full-time positions. The opportunities are there.”
Adjunct professors also receive tuition waivers based on terms for service for themselves and family members.
Light refreshments will be served to the candidates at the Job Fair. The address is 2600 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison. Parking is available in Lot 1. The fair will give candidates a chance to meet with Department Chairs and other faculty members.
